Look into the Catholic Church

Have you seen the documentary on Netflix, The Program: Cons, Cults, & Kidnapping? The teen centers are owned and ran by a Mormon. Would love to hear your take on this.

It seems like Warren Jeff also set everything up to where if he was caught by the law, it would solidify all the fears that the government is evil and out to get this religion. He can use everything that happened to him, as "proof" of this, and even though it was his "prophesies" and acts that caused the government to take homes etc, I can see how most would see this as a sign the government and the outside is indeed evil and out to destroy them and their religion.

I'm bipolar and I've had hilucinations both scary and benign and my heart goes out to her dad my brain doesn't work without medication I'm so glad I was an atheist in a non religious home by the time I got diagnosed, unfortunately it took years because when I was young I thought I was evil and seeing demons it was so awful I didn't dare tell anyone. I hate how many religions prevent people from getting the medical help they need and accuse them of being evil simply because they need medicine even the broader Mormon church has this belief in it, as I suffered from it for years

Wow I was surprised when she said young kids don't notice church stuff my only childhood memories were completely run by fears propagated by my church there was no part of my life that wasn't run by the Mormon church, my primary president leader hated my mom and used to get me alone and question me about our homeschool curriculum because she wanted to take my mom's kids away and call social services on her I knew this and gave her all the right answers (they were true too) and she would go away mad I must have been 4 and younger my home town was only Mormon and it was so scary we ended up having to flee when I was seven when my dad died because everyone was afraid of my dad there and when he died we lost our protection and the town went after us Mormonism ruled my life for 20 odd years it nearly destroyed me and I have no childhood memories that aren't completely rulled by Mormonism it still effects my life 28 years later wow, I'm stunned this young FLDS ex member had such a church free childhood good for her.

Our folks drove us out to Colorado City when we were kids, and they were like "This is the way that our ancestors used to live..."

I had a friend who was returning to church and had her kids blessed at around 6 and 8 years old. Thankfully they ate no longer a party of the organization and the mom is supportive of her trans kid instead :)

The testimony meeting sounds very similar to how Quakers operate their church gatherings

I know I've heard Amy's story before. I've heard most of what was said before. For some reason, I have never cried so much listening. I love how easy Amy is to listen to and emphasize with. But hearing her say it to you two lovely humans took it to a whole other level. I paused the vid and my crying to read the blog she reccomended (bless all those children!) and now I'm back listening to the end and crying even more. It's an emotional and painful story, regardless of where it is told. But I truly appreciate the depth of hearing it again, here. Thank you!!!

The polygamous work reputation reminds me of our area in Michigan and the Amish. They are who you want for any roofing or construction job of any kind. They are highly skilled, work quickly, efficiently and very in demand.

At some point Kody says his wives can leave anytime they want to. He even said he would give them money. But later he acts completely different. Look up narcissistic behavior and compare it to Kody. 💯 percent! He gaslights his wives all the time. Robyn knew how he treated his other wives before she married him. I think Robyn is also a narcissist and she got into it for the attention and the money. Kody is all about Kody. Robyn is abusing her children emotionally as well. They are both liars.

Just catching up with this series of yours and LOVING the reactions. I’ve watched Sister Wives from the beginning and it’s been so frustrating to watch Kody’s narcissism and gaslighting (along with Robyn’s). So having you guys see right through it is so gratifying. 😅

Don't forget, women were totally naked under a poncho that was open on the sides. Furthermore, the ordinances required touching the breasts and loin. Fortunately, most ordinance workers were careful where they touched.

I can’t stand Kody Brown. He’s a narcissist and he’s every definition of the word. He thinks he’s above all, perfect, any problem or issue that arises is never his fault or caused by his behavior. 🤮 He gaslights his family all the time. I read a lot about Jonestown. Jim was doing what he called “white nights” with the leadership years before the massacre where they were dress rehearsing his “radical suicide”, including one time where the leaders thought they had drank real poison. When they got to Guyana, Jones did these “white nights” on a mass scale. He had already prepped his followers and obviously had the poison there ready to go. He had been planning the suicide/murder for years.

I felt like all the wives were on the verge of a nervous breakdown. They seemed very fragile. Also they all looked like they were going to pounce on Brady at any moment.

I met a survivor, she visited the college I was going to, and she said she was happy to be there and believed in his views, but towards the end, I realized something was wrong. She was able to escape. I wish I could remember her name, but this was 10+ years ago.

Remember that now that the three original wives have left all money they have been earning is no longer in the family accounts. They keeping their own money. So how will Kody and Robyn maintain their life style?

I remember watching this on the evening news as a kid. Unbelievable.

I'm not LDS or catholic, but I've studied a lot of religion and cults, and the one cup thing, just FYI, probably goes back to how common catholic practices are, and the sharing of the cup of wine, blood of christ thing, piece of bread, body of christ thing. A number of other religions pulled from this for their rituals too. It might have even started back with older pagan practices with the sharing of bread and wine. Wine being sanitary because of the alcohol content. Religions tend to borrow a lot from each other in my experience of studying them.

I would love to to know what you think of the HBO series Big Love. I recently rewatched it after I got into the ex-mo content on RUclips. I have no Mormon adjacent background, but it seems that they really did their research.

That's because 3 of the 5 wives he actually really loves them. Wife #3&4 always were complaining about Brady. The first wife and 2nd wife and the 5th wife were the favorites from the beginning. And actually the reason there wasn't a season 3 was because of rosemary because she did a blog or whatever and tlc already had a good setup so they told my five wife's wasn't renewed. Brady actually talked about in a different youtube interviewer like 2 or 3 years ago. But he said everything is fine with the family it's just the show caused alot of problems with the family and his family business too. Plus when they decided to leave the aub they couldn't even sell there house they had to go through aub to sell there house and everything and the aub made it very difficult for them to fully leave. He said that 2 of his wives decided to pack up and moved out because they saw that Brady couldn't get the aub to give him a reasonable deal for his houses and the property too.

I really appreciate how you guys explain your experiences then and now. How you explain the difference in the religion. Love your openness.

Praying and laying on of hands is done in the Bible as well. I have never been Mormon or associated with the Mormon faith but I have seen in Christian churches the men lay hands on people many times, or them have anyone that believes come up in a crowd and lay hands on someone, or people stretch their hands in the direction of someone while someone prayed . When my PaPa was very sick, my sister, and as I asked if we could pray over him and lay our hands on him it remains one of the most beautiful memories.
